Whether you are in a committed relationship, just starting to date or you refer to today as “Single Awareness Day,” Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to go out there and try something new.  Long gone are the days where your only option was to go out to an overpriced restaurant for dinner or stay at home and watch romantic comedies while eating an entire container of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream (yes, I’ve done that).  Now you can take your sweetie or your group of girlfriends and do something you’ve never done before.

I’ve found a couple of fun events happening across the country that will hopefully get your hearts a flutter.  These may inspire you to say goodbye to just flowers and chocolate and say “Why Not!” to a new and fun Valentine’s Day activity.

Ghost Tour of Historic Haunted Philadelphia (Philadelphia, PA)
Picture this: a romantic candlelit walk through … colonial cemeteries.  Now in its 3rd year, the Valentine’s Ghost Tour is a 75 minute walking tour that brings you tales of haunted burial grounds and historic haunted houses.

Naked at the Getty Scavenger Hunt (Los Angeles, CA)
Join a team of other Valentine’s Day adventurists as you race through the Getty Museum to discover secrets hidden in works of art involving nudity.  While you keep your clothes on, this may help you get closer with a teammate.

Pillow Fight 2012 (San Francisco, CA)
Everyone loves a pillow fight!  Ok, unless you don’t have a pillow with you.  But if you are looking to possibly get out some singledom aggression or want to be playful with a potential suitor, nothing says “I love you” like a pillow to the face.

A Sweetheart Named Desired Cooking Class (Chicago, IL)
Inspired by the movie starring Marlon Brando, this teaches you how to make a cajun-inspired beef tenderloin and sweet potato dish as well as a delicious dark chocolate flourless cake.  At the end of the night you get to eat your creation as well as enjoy a complementary glass of champagne.  Yummmm!
