We all know that life is busy. For many of us, we all play different roles and wear different hats throughout our day. We are moms, wives, sisters and friends. Sometimes it’s hard to make time for our passions when we feel strapped with everything else going on. But our Why Not Girl! of the Week Kristin Reese found an opportunity being an independent stylist for accessories direct seller Stella & Dot to not only find another way to help provide for her family, but also to tap into her passion for fashion. She is just starting her business, but already has plans on how she’s going to grow and help other women along the way.
Why are you a Why Not Girl!?
First and foremost, I’m a wife and mother; that alone, along with many other amazing women, says Why Not!. I’m also a 5th grade Learning Behavior Specialist (Special Education Teacher) and just recently added the title of Independent Stylist for Stella & Dot to my plate. I saw a chance to try something new, and honestly, when I was in the decision phase, hearing about Why Not Girl! really did help push me toward taking this risk. It’s amazing how those three little words can be so inspiring! Sometimes I don’t know how I juggle it all, but I do it not just for me, but for my family. My husband always says, “A happy wife equals a happy life.” So, despite some of the things that get me down, staying busy and achieving new found success makes me a happy Why Not Girl!
How/why did you decide to say, Why Not!?
I decided to say, Why Not!? because I love my family and I love new challenges. Adding my newest challenge to my life gives me the opportunity to meet new people, connect with friends I should see more often and provide a little bit more money for me and my family.
What has been the most rewarding part of being a Why Not Girl!? The most challenging?
The most rewarding is being able to provide just a bit more for my family! Plus, I OWN all the wonderful accessories that I sell, so I get to feel fabulous each and every time I step out of the house in Stella & Dot…how rewarding is that!
The most challenging is keeping a work/life balance. Being working mom is tough enough, and although Stella & Dot is fun, I must remember that I need to still spend quality time with my husband and daughter.
What is one lesson you have learned in your quest in being a Why Not Girl!?
I have learned to remember to take risks, but also step back and look at the big picture. I’ve learned to accept that risk taking comes with rewards and of sometimes defeat. I reminded myself that there is such a thing as healthy competition and that one or two “no’s” doesn’t mean I’ve failed. I’ve also learned to remind myself that I can have fun at work!
Who would you say is a Why Not Girl! that has inspired you?
I don’t know if I can pinpoint just one person, as I’ve been lucky enough to interact with and be motivated by a lot of amazing women and people! My Stella & Dot Sponsor and fellow Why Not Girl! of the Week, Bridget Drzewicki, has been invaluable as I launch my new business, and I can’t forget all the working moms I teach with each and every day! They inspire me to keep going and push through the hard days!
What other ways do you plan to say Why Not! either now or in the future?
I hope connect with a few charities through my Stella & Dot business. I would love to host trunk shows for well deserving moms, give them the fabulous jewelry rewards and donate a portion of my commission to their charity and causes!
